they earn USD $60,000 per year in total rental income.
$200 x 25 apartments x 12 months = $60,000
In the end the landowner continues to own USD $500,000 worth of real estate, but they will now be earning a passive income totaling USD $60,000 per year from their asset.
This is a 12% annual rental yield, in other words they will be able to buy the same original piece of land in cash every 8 years!
